iPhone keep-alive
Keeps an iPhone's personal hotspot from shutting off by sending it periodic requests.
- Periodic
- requests keep the iPhone's hotspot awake, so it doesn't shut down its Wi-Fi
- Ancestor
- its Wi-Fi, access-point, update and file-handling code was lifted unchanged into Oshkidar, and from there into esp32-seed
The iPhone keep-alive is one of our early ESP32 devices, and the most modest. It keeps an iPhone from shutting down its personal hotspot by sending requests to it at regular intervals.
Its importance is in what came after. The WiFi connection handling, the fallback access point, over-the-air updates, file handling and the hold-the-button factory wipe were written and proven on this device. When Oshkidar began, that code was lifted into it unchanged, and from there it grew into the hardened baseline every later device starts from.
It proves something small but real: the later hardware work did not start from a tutorial. It started from a device that already worked.
